Chinese Studies from Zhaoqing University:
1 Chinese language and culture - Courses of this programme include modern Chinese language, ancient Chinese language, writing, basic literary theory, modern Chinese literature, ancient Chinese literature, contemporary Chinese literature and comparative literature.
2 Fine arts - Courses include drawing, water and colour drawing, calligraphy, Chinese painting, oil painting, engraved picture, photography, earthwork crafts, designs and Chinese fine arts.
3.Music - Courses include singing practice, song appreciation and lyric writing, piano, vocal, choir and conducting, history of music, dance, accordion, electric piano, Cantonese music and basic arts theory.
4. Teaching-training - The length of this class may vary from three months to one year and courses include teaching of Chinese language for foreign students, teaching practice, Chinese language testing method and modern Chinese.
5. Short-term Chinese language and culture - This class emphasises listening and speaking skills. The courses include basic Chinese, listening comprehension, conversation, reading and traditional Chinese culture.
6. Summer/Winter camp - Lectures are offered on spoken Chinese (Putonghua), calligraphy and Chinese Kongfu. Sightseeing is arranged for students to learn about China through direct contact.
7. Students are streamed into different classes according to their scores on the test for proficiency in Chinese. They will have experienced teachers.
8. Lessons are given from Monday to Friday, with a total of 16 to 18 class hours each week.
9. There will be numerous lectures especially for foreign students on Chinese calligraphy, tourism, martial arts, Cantonese cuisine and Chinese education. Extra-curricular activities include sightseeing in the city, field study in the countryside, attending folk dances and singing Chinese songs. They support class work and are provided free of charge.

Cost:
1. The tuition fee is 3,280 RMB (app 400 USD) for one month, 7,380 RMB (app 900 USD) for one semester or 14,760 RMB (app 1800 USD) for one academic year. Costs for textbooks and other teaching materials are not included. The tuition fee must be paid in one lump sum when class begins, otherwise an extra 5% of the unpaid fee will be charged per month.
2. Board costs approximately US$ 3 a day per person. Meals are served at the school canteen.
3. Lodging costs:
a) Foreign teachers’ Accommodation (Accommodation for internationals): 1,500RMB/month, with furniture, beds, cooking equipment, bedding, air conditioning / heating, fridge, TV, washing machine, microwave, phone etc.
b) Guest House: US$ 10 a day for a category A room which includes one or two beds, a water heater, TV, telephone, refrigerator, air conditioner, bath and toilet. A category B room costs US$ 8 a day and includes one or two beds, TV, refrigerator and air conditioner with a common telephone, bath and toilet on each floor.
c) For the adventurous ones you could choose to share one room with 3 other Chinese undergraduate students at 1,500RMB/year in the students dormitories. Some oriental students did this and their Chinese improved tremendously fast.
