The Land
of the Dragon - and a fantastic Country in which
to take a year out for personal development |
| Volunteering is new
to many, and a way of helping others in distress.
It is also used by some as a way of making money
from your free labours - Excel do not believe
in this - We are open and honourable about what
we do |
 |
|
| Excel has been working
in fields of Ethical Trading; and Supporting Cultural
and Environmental Initiatives for several years.
You personally get to do something really important
concerning preserving the Worlds Heritage of Peoples,
Places, Things, Animals, or Plants |
|
| In General, you will
be offered free food and accommodation, plus a
small stipendiary. Those with unique skills, or
a longer-term commitment will have their return
travel costs paid also (Usually 1-year) |
|
| |
Through our local and National
contacts in China, we are able to offer
a variety of options including:
• Industrial Placements in Key Industries
and Institutions
• Support for Independent Travellers
wishing to spend a year touring
• Arts, Sports and Vocational Pursuits
• Volunteering
• Work restoring The Great Wall of
China
• Ecological projects for Pandas,
Rare Tigers, endangered Fauna and Flora |
 |
|
|
| Nepal |
Nepal is a
small Independent Country sandwiched between
India and China |
|
|
|
|
|
|
| From jungles
set a few feet above sea-level, to the snowy
crests of the highest mountains on earth,
Nepal offers wonders of flora and fauna
at every turn. The population is also diverse,
consisting of many different ethnic minorities
and 78 recorded local dialects |
|
|
|
|
|
|
| Outside of
the major cities, much of Nepal is largely
unspoiled, providing safe haven for endangered
species such as native Elephants and Tigers.
The indigenous tribes people still follow
a life that is balanced by daily nature.
The majority of hill tribes do not have
either water or electricity |
|
|
|
| As witnessed
in the neighbouring Indian enclave of Arunachar
Pradesh, the arrival of electricity often
brings upheaval, as one of the first things
to arrive is television. This device is
capable of reducing the traditions of millennia
to nothing, inside of One Generation. We
need to be responsible in our efforts to
do good deeds! |

Water for Salle Village |
|
|
|
| Excel first
became interested in projects in Nepal via
our good friends Dave and Dawn Edmonds
from England. They were fortunate to retire
early, and chose to spend a couple of years
wandering aimlessly around Asia, mainly
on foot, or by using local public transport.
They fell in love with Nepal, and its peoples,
and decided to help where they could |
|
| Salle Village
sits in the Himalayan foothills some 14
days walk from Kathmandu = quite close,
and not in a remote area of Nepal. They
noticed that every day, villagers left at
dawn to walk 8 miles to get water for the
village + the 8 miles return trip of course.
A seed had been planted, and over the intervening
months, this grew to be a real, physical
water pipe from a location upstream - paid
for and installed by David and Dawn - with
their own personal money + their own blood,
sweat and tears. Now that is being 'Proactive'! |
|
|
|
| Can
you even begin to imagine how completely
this small thing changed the villagers lives? |
|
| It is in areas
like these that real Cultural Exchanges
occur, different thinking is considered,
and new friendships are bonded. Real life
is not that simple, and it was soon discovered
that other tribes nearer the source were
cutting the pipe to get water. At first
they employed a man to go and fix the pipe.
Now when the pipe is cut they install taps
instead. |
|
| Demand is
now so great, they now need to install a
larger diameter pipe, and perhaps consider
routing as well, and adding additional spurs
to the pipeline for other villages to benefit |
|
| How
Can You Help? |
| 1. Well for
sure, money of course - as even £1
per annum goes a long, long way in a Country
where a good annual wage is $175 per year! |
| But
this is not what Excel, nor David &
Dawn are about! |
| We would prefer
you kept your money, but gave your time,
knowledge, or resources - which are far
more valuable to us |
| 2. We need
volunteers to help us extend the pipeline
to other villages in different areas of
Nepal. A Plumber to advise us in the field,
how best to do this, and what products to
use |
| 3. We are also
aware, (As happened in Northern Thailand),
that if you start diverting larger quantities
of water from an upstream source; peoples
in the middle and lower reaches of the river
will also be affected - sometimes with disastrous
consequences for crops and livelihoods.
Can you help us predict what will
happen downstream if we enlarge this project? |
|
|
|
| World |
Through our
links in other countries - we can offer similar
projects in Peru, Southern Africa, Vietnam, Laos,
and Thailand |
